Description

Crimson Stairs are a wooden stair block made of Nether wood, added in Minecraft 1.16. One craft of six Crimson Planks in a staircase pattern at a Crafting Table yields four Crimson Stairs. Crimson Planks come from a single Crimson Stem or Crimson Hyphae, which gives four planks, and the supply is renewable (it can be farmed endlessly) because Nether fungi grow into Crimson Stems. Crimson Stairs stack up to 64 per slot.

An axe breaks Crimson Stairs fastest, though any tool works, and the stairs drop themselves when broken. Fire cannot burn Crimson Stairs, and only Overworld wooden stairs work as furnace fuel (one block smelts 1.5 items), so Crimson Stairs are not furnace fuel. Lava cannot set Crimson Stairs on fire in Java Edition, but it can in Bedrock Edition. Water can fill the same space as Crimson Stairs (waterlogging), and in Java Edition the full-block faces stop light while the stepped gaps let light through.

Guide

How to craft and place Crimson Stairs in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Get Crimson Planks

One Crimson Stem or Crimson Hyphae in a crafting grid gives four Crimson Planks, and the stripped versions work too.

  2. 2

    Craft the stairs

Six Crimson Planks on a Crafting Table, laid out as a staircase of three, two and one planks in adjacent columns (the mirrored layout works too), give four Crimson Stairs.

  3. 3

    Place them right side up

Aiming at the top of a block or the lower half of a block's side sets Crimson Stairs upright, with the half-block side nearest the player.

  4. 4

    Place them upside down

Aiming at the bottom of a block or the upper half of a block's side sets Crimson Stairs upside down.

  5. 5

    Join corners

Crimson Stairs next to stairs of any material reshape into inner or outer corners on their own, while upside-down stairs never join upright ones.

Walk instead of jump

Walking up Crimson Stairs is faster than jumping the same distance and adds no hunger exhaustion (the hidden counter that drains the hunger bar), while each jump adds 0.2 exhaustion.
