Description

Chorus plants grow exclusively on the outer islands of the End dimension, forming tall tree-like structures with branching purple-grey stalks and a chorus flower at each tip. Breaking any segment of the plant causes all connected segments above it to drop as items, so severing the base clears the entire structure at once.

Chorus fruit drops from the plant when a segment is broken. Eating it restores 4 hunger points and teleports the player up to 8 blocks in a random horizontal or vertical direction, ignoring the normal line-of-sight requirement. This makes it dangerous near ledges but useful for escaping traps or crossing short gaps.

Smelting chorus fruit produces popped chorus fruit, the ingredient for purpur blocks and end rods. Purpur is the main decorative material of end cities and can be crafted into pillars, slabs and stairs. End rods are slim, orientation-free light sources that emit light level 14.

Chorus plants survive only on End stone. They can be grown from a chorus flower placed on End stone in any dimension, so a farm can be built even in the Overworld inside an End stone enclosure. Chorus plants were added in Java and Bedrock Edition 1.9, the Combat Update.

How to harvest and farm Chorus Plants in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Reach the End outer islands

Defeat the Ender Dragon, step through the End gateway portal, and fly or bridge to the outer islands where chorus plants generate on End stone.

  2. 2

Break the plant for chorus fruit

Hit any segment of the plant. All connected segments above it break too, dropping chorus fruit you can eat or smelt.

  3. 3

Smelt fruit into popped chorus fruit

Cook chorus fruit in a furnace to get popped chorus fruit — the crafting ingredient for purpur blocks (4 popped) and end rods (1 popped + 1 blaze rod).

  4. 4

Build a farm with chorus flowers

Place a chorus flower on End stone in any dimension. It grows into a full chorus plant you can break repeatedly for renewable chorus fruit.

Watch the teleport

Eating chorus fruit teleports you up to 8 blocks in a random direction, which can drop you off a ledge into the void on the End outer islands.
