Description

Chainmail Boots are the chainmail-tier foot armor in Minecraft, granting 1 armor point and 195 points of durability per pair. Unlike iron or diamond gear, Chainmail Boots have no Survival crafting recipe — players obtain Chainmail Boots by trading with an armorer villager, finding them as rare zombie and skeleton drops, fishing them up in the junk category, or taking them from the Creative inventory. Chainmail Boots are worn in the boots slot and sit between leather and iron in protection value.

Chainmail Boots accept the same boot enchantments as other armor — Protection, Feather Falling, Depth Strider, Soul Speed, Thorns, Unbreaking, and Mending — applied through an enchanting table or anvil. Repair Chainmail Boots on an anvil with iron ingots, or combine two damaged pairs to merge durability. Smelting Chainmail Boots in a furnace or blast furnace returns one iron nugget. Chainmail Boots share these mechanics in both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition.

How to get Chainmail Boots in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Trade with an armorer

Assign or cure a villager into an armorer; apprentice-level armorers can sell Chainmail Boots for emeralds.

  2. 2

    Collect rare mob drops

Zombies and skeletons occasionally spawn wearing Chainmail Boots and may drop the pair when killed.

  3. 3

    Fish for junk loot

Cast a fishing rod into open water; Chainmail Boots appear rarely in the junk loot category.

  4. 4

    Enchant and equip

Place Chainmail Boots in the boots slot and enchant them with Feather Falling or Protection at an enchanting table.

Important

Chainmail Boots have no Survival crafting recipe; the old fire-based recipe was removed in Java Edition 1.8.
