Chainmail Chestplate
Mid-tier torso armor obtained from trades, chest loot, or mob drops.
Description
Worn in the chest slot, the piece contributes +5 protection to the player's defense bar and accepts the full set of body-armor enchantments, including Protection, Thorns, Unbreaking, and Mending. Damaged copies can be repaired on an anvil by combining two worn pieces or, since update 1.14, by using iron ingots as repair material. Its visual design references medieval interlinked rings, distinguishing it clearly from leather, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite tiers.
How-To Guide
How to get a Chainmail Chestplate in Minecraft
-
1
Trade with an armorer villager
Cure or level up a village armorer and check its trades; armorers can sell a Chainmail Chestplate for emeralds, the only fully renewable survival source.
-
2
Collect drops from equipped mobs
Zombies and skeletons that spawn already wearing chainmail can rarely drop the chestplate when killed, especially with a Looting sword.
-
3
Loot generated structures
Open chests in dungeons, strongholds, and jungle temples, where chainmail pieces occasionally appear as treasure.
-
4
Repair and enchant the piece
Place the Chainmail Chestplate on an anvil to combine two worn copies or add iron ingots (since 1.14), then apply Protection, Thorns, Unbreaking, or Mending.
A Chainmail Chestplate cannot be crafted at a crafting table in survival mode; in Creative it is available directly from the inventory.
