Birch Slab
Birch Slab is a vanilla half-block that turns a wall into a clean top and bottom edge, perfect for pale floors and smooth stair illusions.
Description
Builders reach for Birch Slab whenever a build needs a clean horizontal reveal, a curved roofline, or a stair illusion made from two stacked slabs. A Birch Slab placed as a bottom half sits flush with the ground, a top half caps a wall cleanly, and two Birch Slabs stacked together form one full birch block, so the same item adapts to floors, roofs, and decorative trim. As a wooden block, Birch Slab is flammable, can serve as furnace fuel, and appears naturally inside woodland mansions. Birch Slab is renewable, since birch trees regrow from birch saplings dropped by birch leaves, giving builders an endless supply for pale, light-filled structures.

Guide
How to craft and use Birch Slab in Minecraft
-
1
Gather Birch Planks
Place 1 Birch Log in the crafting grid to obtain 4 Birch Planks. Birch Logs come from birch trees found in birch forests, forests, and dark forest edges.
-
2
Lay out a horizontal row
Place 3 Birch Planks across the middle row of the 3x3 crafting grid. This recipe outputs 6 Birch Slabs per craft.
-
3
Place the slab
Right-click a block's bottom face to set a bottom-half Birch Slab, the top face for a top half, or the same spot twice to stack two slabs into one full birch block.
-
4
Mine it with an axe
Break a Birch Slab fastest with an axe. Hardness 2 and blast resistance 3 mean a pickaxe is unnecessary and slower.
Birch Slab was added in Java Edition 1.3.1 and Bedrock Edition 0.8.0, when wooden slab variants replaced the older stone-only slabs.

Frequently asked questions
Can you craft a Birch Slab in Minecraft?
Yes. Place 3 Birch Planks in a single horizontal row of a 3x3 crafting grid to produce 6 Birch Slabs per craft.
Where do Birch Slabs generate naturally?
Birch Slabs generate as part of woodland mansions. Outside those structures, Birch Slab is obtained by crafting from Birch Planks.
What is the best tool to break a Birch Slab?
An axe is the best tool. Birch Slab breaks fastest with an axe, matching every other wooden slab.
Is Birch Slab a renewable block?
Yes. Birch trees regrow from birch saplings that drop from birch leaves, so Birch Slab is fully renewable.
Can Birch Slab be placed as a top, bottom, or double slab?
Yes. Birch Slab can be placed as a bottom half, a top half, or stacked two-high into one full birch block, which gives three distinct placements.
Is Birch Slab flammable?
Yes. Birch Slab is a wooden block, so Birch Slab catches fire from lava and flammable neighbours and can smelt items in a furnace as fuel.
