Description

Growing on farmland through eight crop stages, each stage advances on a random tick when overhead light stays at or above level nine. Seeds — obtained by breaking tall grass or found in village chests — are placed on hoe-tilled soil within four blocks of standing water. Bone meal jumps several growth stages at once. A fully mature plant drops one bundle of wheat along with zero to three seeds, making any field self-sustaining without purchasing replacements. Cutting before peak maturity yields only seeds. Harvested grain stacks to 64 and acts as the core ingredient for bread, cake, cookies, and hay bales. Sheep and cows also breed when given this item, so a combined crop and livestock farm shares the same resource efficiently. On multiplayer servers, automated designs using observers, pistons, and water streams deliver a near-continuous supply with minimal hands-on replanting work.

How to farm Wheat in Minecraft

    Till soil near water

    Use a hoe on grass or dirt within four blocks of a water source so the farmland stays hydrated and dark brown.

    Plant wheat seeds

    Right-click the tilled farmland with seeds gathered from tall grass or village chests to place the first crop stage.

    Keep light at level 9 or higher

    Place torches or farm in daylight; wheat only advances through its eight growth stages when the light above it is at least level 9.

    Speed it up with bone meal

    Right-click growing wheat with bone meal to skip several stages instantly, or simply wait for random ticks to mature it.

    Harvest when golden

    Break fully grown wheat to collect one wheat plus zero to three seeds, then replant the seeds to keep the field self-sustaining.

Tip

Jumping on farmland or running across it can trample the soil back into dirt and uproot crops. Fence the plot or hop carefully to protect a wheat field.
