Saddle
Saddle is the only item that lets you ride and steer horses, donkeys, mules, camels, pigs, and striders in Minecraft.
Description
Saddle equips onto horses, donkeys, mules, and camels through their inventory screen after taming, letting you mount and ride them directly. For pigs and striders, Saddle alone is not enough: a pig needs a Carrot on a Stick to steer, and a strider needs a Warped Fungus on a Stick to cross the lava lakes of the Nether. Each Saddle stacks to only one per slot, so a full stable of mounts means collecting many separate Saddles.

How to use a Saddle in Minecraft
-
1
Obtain a Saddle
Craft a Saddle from 3 leather and 1 iron ingot, find one in Nether fortress, bastion, End city, or village chests, fish one up as treasure, or trade 6 emeralds with a Master-level Leatherworker villager.
-
2
Tame your mount
Tame a horse, donkey, or mule by mounting it repeatedly until hearts appear; camels and pigs do not need taming.
-
3
Open the mount inventory
Mount a tamed horse and press the inventory key, then place the Saddle into the dedicated saddle slot.
-
4
Steer pigs and striders
On a pig or strider, equip the Saddle, then hold a Carrot on a Stick (pig) or a Warped Fungus on a Stick (strider) to control its direction.
Saddle has been craftable since Java 1.21.6 and Bedrock 1.21.90 (3 leather + 1 iron ingot); before that update, chests, fishing, and trading were the only sources. Shears take a Saddle off a living mount, and a slain ravager always drops one.

Frequently asked questions
Can you craft a Saddle in Minecraft?
Yes. Since Java Edition 1.21.6 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.90, Saddle is crafted from 3 leather and 1 iron ingot. In older versions the only sources were chest loot, fishing, and villager trades.
What animals can wear a Saddle?
Saddle works on horses, donkeys, mules, camels, pigs, and striders. Skeleton horses and zombie horses can also be saddled.
Do you need a Saddle to ride a pig?
Yes. A pig needs a Saddle to be ridden and a Carrot on a Stick to be steered; without the Saddle you cannot mount the pig.
Where do you find Saddles fastest?
Crafting is the fastest route at 3 leather plus 1 iron ingot. Nether fortress chests hold a Saddle about a third of the time, and a Master-level Leatherworker sells one for 6 emeralds — the trade is always offered in Java Edition and appears half the time in Bedrock.
Does a Saddle stack in Minecraft?
No. Saddle has a maximum stack size of one, so each inventory slot holds a single Saddle.
