Red Shulker Box is the red-dyed form of the shulker box, a storage block that — alone among Minecraft storage blocks — keeps its contents in item form when broken. The undyed base is crafted from two shulker shells — the drop of shulkers, hostile mobs of End cities — stacked vertically around a single chest, and one red dye recolors the finished box without spilling a stored item. Red Shulker Box offers 27 inventory slots — the capacity of a single chest, a barrel, or an ender chest — and the contents survive mining, piston pushes, and explosions, because a broken shulker box always drops itself as an item. Hardness 2 and blast resistance 2 describe the placed block, a pickaxe mines Red Shulker Box fastest, any tool or a bare hand also works, and shulker boxes never stack. Shulker boxes became a renewable resource in Java Edition 1.17, when the shulker post-generation mechanic arrived.

In survival play, Red Shulker Box doubles as travel luggage: mining a filled shulker box leaves one item carrying the whole inventory, and placing Red Shulker Box at the destination returns everything. A hopper feeds the storage and pulls the contents out, a redstone comparator reports the fill level even when the lid cannot open, and an observer registers every opening and closing. Opening a shulker box takes half a block of clear space toward the lid, and an open Red Shulker Box grows to 1.5 blocks, physically pushing entities away. Piglins turn hostile toward players who open or mine any shulker box, so Nether-adjacent storage rooms need planning around that aggression. A water-filled cauldron washes the red dye off, loses one water level, and returns an undyed shulker box with the contents intact.
