Red Bed is the original Minecraft bed, added in Java Edition Beta 1.3 and the only bed color until version 1.12 expanded the palette to 16 shades. Red Bed sets the player's respawn point and skips the night in 101 game ticks (about 5 seconds) when every online player is asleep at once. A Red Bed is crafted from three red wool placed across the top row of a crafting table and three planks of any wood type filling the middle row, yielding one bed per craft. Red Bed carries a hardness of 0.2 and an identical blast resistance of 0.2, so a single creeper or TNT blast clears the block instantly.

Red Bed generates naturally inside every igloo and can also spawn in savanna villages and snowy tundra villages alongside orange, yellow, blue, and white variants. Red Bed is non-flammable in Bedrock Edition but can catch fire from lava in Java Edition, and the block cannot be stacked in an inventory. Using Red Bed in the Nether, the End, or any dimension where sleep is disabled triggers an explosion of power 5 — stronger than TNT's 4 — so players repurpose the block as an offensive mining charge underground. Falling onto Red Bed bounces entities at 75% of impact velocity and reduces fall damage to slightly less than half, which makes a floor of beds a practical drop-tower cushion.
