Quartz Slab is a half-height decorative block cut from a Block of Quartz, occupying half of a vertical cube so builders can lay floors, ceilings, and layered facades without spending full blocks. Placing three Blocks of Quartz in a horizontal row on the crafting table yields six Quartz Slabs per recipe, and a stonecutter cuts one Block of Quartz into two slabs at the same per-block yield. Hardness 2 and blast resistance 6 exceed the full Block of Quartz (0.8 each), so Quartz Slab is sturdier than solid quartz despite the half profile. The slab mines with any pickaxe and drops nothing when broken by hand. Quartz Slab was added in Java Edition 1.5 (the Redstone Update, March 2013) and in Pocket Edition Alpha 0.7.3, making the slab one of the oldest quartz decorative pieces.

Stacking two Quartz Slabs inside one block space fills a full cube, which lets builders form thresholds, windowsills, and ceilings at exact block-height precision without wasting whole Blocks of Quartz. Quartz Stairs, Quartz Pillars, and Quartz Bricks round out the stonecutter family, so the quartz palette covers nearly every shape a Greek-temple portico, modern living room, or Nether palace needs. Pair Quartz Slabs with dark blocks like blackstone or black concrete for high-contrast modern facades, or layer the slabs above sea lanterns for a popular glowing quartz-floor effect. The slab does not ignite from fire or lava, so Quartz Slab is also a safe decorative choice around Nether portals and hearths.
