Bucket of Pufferfish is a water bucket holding a live pufferfish, created by right-clicking any pufferfish with a Water Bucket in oceans and warm-ocean biomes. Bucket of Pufferfish is not crafted on a grid — the item exists only after you scoop a swimming pufferfish, which is why the producing recipe never appears in a crafting table. Bucket of Pufferfish stacks to one, keeps the fish alive indefinitely, and prevents the captured pufferfish from despawning, so the catch is permanent. Both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition added fish buckets in version 1.13, the Update Aquatic.

Bucket of Pufferfish is the safest way to transport a pufferfish home for aquariums, item-shop displays, or a renewable pufferfish supply used in brewing. Emptying Bucket of Pufferfish on a block places one flowing water source plus the live pufferfish, and the bucket reverts to an empty Bucket. Players keep Bucket of Pufferfish on hand because a placed pufferfish can be killed for pufferfish — the key ingredient in Water Breathing potions — without diving the open ocean every time.
