Pufferfish — Minecraft block

Pufferfish

Pufferfish is a poisonous Minecraft fish that brews the Potion of Water Breathing and inflates to poison nearby players and mobs.

Description

Pufferfish is obtained by fishing or dropped by the pufferfish mob, which spawns in warm, deep lukewarm, and lukewarm ocean biomes in Minecraft. The pufferfish mob entity was added in Java Edition 1.13 (Update Aquatic), while the item has existed since version 1.7. Pufferfish inflates into a spiked ball when a player or mob comes within about two blocks, and touching the inflated fish applies Poison for several seconds.

Eating Pufferfish restores only 1 hunger point but inflicts Hunger III, Nausea I, and Poison II, making it one of the worst foods in the game. The real value of Pufferfish lies in brewing: one Pufferfish added to an Awkward Potion creates a Potion of Water Breathing (3:00), extendable to 8:00 with redstone dust. Practical takeaway: never eat Pufferfish for hunger — save every one for water-breathing potions before raiding an ocean monument.
