Description

Orange Bed is the orange variant of Minecraft's dyeable bed block, crafted on a crafting grid from three orange wool in one row and three planks of any wood type in the row directly beneath. The three wool blocks must share one color, while the planks can mix different woods, and a bed of any color can be re-dyed with orange dye to become an Orange Bed. Orange Beds generate naturally in savanna village houses, which hold orange, red, or yellow beds. Orange Bed breaks at the same speed with every tool and drops itself, with hardness 0.2, blast resistance 0.2, and a stack limit of one bed per slot.
Sleeping in an Orange Bed works at night or during a thunderstorm: after 5.05 seconds (101 game ticks) the world jumps to sunrise once every Overworld player is asleep, and rainy weather resets to clear. Using Orange Bed during the day still sets the player's spawn point (the place the player returns to after dying), confirmed by the chat message 'Respawn point set'. Hostile monsters within eight blocks horizontally and five blocks vertically of an Orange Bed prevent sleep with a warning about nearby monsters. In the Nether and the End, a sleep attempt makes Orange Bed explode with power 5 — stronger than TNT at power 4 — and the blast sets surrounding blocks on fire. Villagers occupy Orange Beds at night and need spare beds to produce offspring. Keep one Orange Bed at every survival base to skip nights safely and respawn at home after death.

Guide

How to craft and use an Orange Bed in Minecraft

  1. 1

Collect three orange wool and three planks

Gather three pieces of orange wool for the top row and three planks of any wood type for the bottom row; the wool color must match, but mixed planks are allowed.

  2. 2

    Craft the Orange Bed

Open a crafting table, lay the three orange wool in one row of the 3×3 grid and the three planks in the row directly beneath, then take the finished Orange Bed from the output slot.

  3. 3

Place the Orange Bed on the floor

Set the Orange Bed on a two-block floor space with the head pointing away; on Bedrock Edition the bed also needs solid blocks underneath.

  4. 4

Sleep at night or during a thunderstorm

Use the Orange Bed after dark or in a thunderstorm; the player sleeps for 5.05 seconds, and the night then skips to sunrise once every Overworld player is in bed.

  5. 5

    Set the spawn point

Use the Orange Bed during the daytime to set the spawn point without sleeping; the chat confirms the change with the message 'Respawn point set'.

Never sleep in the Nether or the End

The Orange Bed explodes with power 5 — stronger than TNT — and sets fire to nearby blocks when a player tries to sleep in the Nether or the End.

Frequently asked questions

When was the Orange Bed added to Minecraft?

Colored beds arrived in Java Edition 1.12 (snapshot 17w15a), and Pocket Edition 1.1.0 added the other 15 colors, including orange.

Do phantoms appear if the player skips sleeping?

Yes. In Java Edition, phantoms start spawning after three in-game days without sleep, unless the gamerule doInsomnia is disabled.

Can pistons move an Orange Bed?

No. A piston push destroys the Orange Bed, and sticky pistons cannot pull the bed back.

Do beds help cure zombie villagers?

Yes. Each bed near a zombie villager has a chance to speed up the curing process, the same effect iron bars provide.

How close must the player stand to use a bed?

The use range is 3 blocks in Java Edition and 2 blocks in Bedrock Edition.

Does sleeping restore health?

Only in Bedrock Edition on Peaceful difficulty: sleeping in a bed fully restores the player's health.
