Leather Pants are Minecraft's cheapest leg armor, crafted from 7 leather, dyeable to any color, and worn for early-game protection.
Description
Leather Pants can be dyed any color by combining them with dye on the crafting grid in Java Edition or by dunking them in a cauldron of dyed water in Bedrock Edition — leather armor is the only dyeable armor in the game, worn purely for cosmetic outfits. Players enchant Leather Pants with Protection or Unbreaking at an enchanting table, and add Thorns, Mending, or the leggings-exclusive Swift Sneak with enchanted books on an anvil. Leather Pants can also be repaired with extra leather, but only on an anvil, with each leather restoring 25% of maximum durability. Zombies and other mobs can also spawn wearing Leather Pants, so a dropped pair often arrives slightly damaged.

Kill cows, horses, llamas, or mooshrooms to collect 7 leather, or craft leather from 4 rabbit hide.

Place the 7 leather in a pants pattern: a full top row and both outer columns, leaving the center and bottom-center cells empty.

Move the finished Leather Pants into the leg armor slot in your inventory to gain 2 armor points.

Dye or enchant (optional)
Combine the pants with any dye to recolor them in Java Edition (in Bedrock, use a cauldron of dyed water), or use an enchanting table or anvil to add Protection and Unbreaking.
Leather Pants have only 75 durability in Java Edition (76 in Bedrock Edition), so add Unbreaking or carry spare leather to repair them on an anvil before they break.
