Description

Leather Cap is the only dyeable head armor in Minecraft, crafted from 5 leather and giving 1 armor point. Its durability is 55 uses. Cows, horses, and mules drop leather, so the Leather Cap is available from the earliest game stage. Unlike iron or diamond armor, leather armor can be dyed any RGB color: in Java Edition you combine the cap with dyes in the crafting grid, while in Bedrock Edition you dip it in a cauldron of dyed water. The Leather Cap can be enchanted with Protection, Unbreaking, and Thorns, and repaired with leather on an anvil. Some zombies and skeletons spawn wearing a Leather Cap. It is the weakest helmet tier but the cheapest, making it the standard first-night head protection.

How to craft and dye a Leather Cap in Minecraft

    Gather 5 leather

    Kill cows, horses, or mules, or trade with a leatherworker villager, until you have 5 leather.

    Craft the cap

    Place the 5 leather across the top row and the left and right middle slots of the crafting grid to make 1 Leather Cap.

    Dye it (optional)

    In Java Edition combine the cap with any dye in the crafting grid; in Bedrock Edition dip it in a cauldron of dyed water.

    Equip and enchant

    Wear it in the head slot, then enchant it with Protection or Unbreaking at an enchanting table to extend its 55 durability.
