Description

The Leather Tunic is the entry-level chestplate of Minecraft, assembled from eight pieces of leather arranged around an empty central slot in the crafting grid. It grants three armor points and offers eighty durability, making it the weakest body protection in the game, yet it remains the only chestplate that accepts dyes. Players can colour it by dipping it into a cauldron filled with water and a dye, or by combining it directly with up to eight dyes in the crafting grid to blend custom shades. Washing the colour off requires another dip into a water-filled cauldron, returning the garment to its plain hide tone.

Despite its modest defence, the tunic is invaluable in early survival because leather drops abundantly from cows, horses and llamas, and the recipe demands no smelting or rare resources. It accepts standard body enchantments such as Protection, Thorns and Unbreaking, and it can be repaired on an anvil with extra leather or a second tunic. The piece offers no innate fire resistance and burns away in lava just like its wearer, so adventurers usually replace it with iron or diamond gear before venturing into the Nether.
