Leather Tunic
Leather Tunic is the weakest chestplate in Minecraft: eight leather, three armor points, and the only dyeable one — crafting-grid dyeing in every edition, cauldron dyeing on Bedrock.

Description
Despite modest defence, the Leather Tunic is invaluable in early survival because leather drops abundantly from cows, horses and llamas, and the recipe demands no smelting or rare resources. The Leather Tunic accepts standard body enchantments such as Protection, Thorns and Unbreaking, and can be repaired on an anvil with extra leather — each piece restores 25% of maximum durability — or with a second tunic. No armor material grants fire resistance: that mitigation comes from Fire Protection enchantments and potions, and a dropped Leather Tunic burns in lava like any non-netherite item. With just three armor points, most players upgrade to an iron or diamond chestplate before venturing into the Nether.

How to craft and dye a Leather Tunic in Minecraft

Gather eight leather
Kill cows, horses, llamas or mooshrooms to collect leather (0–2 per animal), or craft one leather from four rabbit hide on the crafting grid.

Craft the tunic
Place eight leather around the empty center slot of the 3x3 crafting grid to make one Leather Tunic.

Dye it your color
Combine the Leather Tunic with dyes in the crafting grid — up to eight at once for blended shades; on Bedrock Edition you can instead add a dye to a water-filled cauldron and use the tunic on it.

Enchant and equip it
Apply Protection or Unbreaking at an enchanting table, then wear the Leather Tunic in the chestplate slot for three armor points.
No armor material grants fire resistance — Fire Protection enchantments and potions reduce fire damage — and a dropped Leather Tunic burns in lava like any non-netherite item, so upgrade to iron or diamond for the Nether's heavier hits.
