Description

Horn Coral Block is the yellow coral variant found in warm ocean reefs across Minecraft, and only a Silk Touch pickaxe drops the live block from each coral cluster. A wooden pickaxe or better is required, and hardness sits at 1.5 with a blast resistance of 6, so Horn Coral Block survives creepers better than wool but yields to TNT. Without Silk Touch, only Dead Horn Coral Block drops — a grey version stripped of the saturated yellow tone.

The vivid yellow color makes Horn Coral Block the only warm-toned coral block among the five variants, standing apart from the blue Tube, pink Brain, purple Bubble, and red Fire coral blocks. Builders pair Horn Coral Block with prismarine, sea lanterns, and wet sponges for authentic reef structures, and the yellow coral stays alive only while at least one of its six adjacent blocks is water or a waterlogged block. Wandering traders sell Horn Coral Block for three emeralds each, the renewable supply when a warm ocean is out of reach.

How to get and keep a Horn Coral Block in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Find a warm ocean reef

Horn Coral Block generates only in coral reef structures beneath warm oceans, so sail until the water is deep teal and warm.

  2. 2

    Equip a Silk Touch pickaxe

Enchant a wooden pickaxe or better with Silk Touch, because a plain pickaxe drops the dead grey variant instead of the live block.

  3. 3

    Mine the yellow coral block

Break the yellow Horn Coral Block with the enchanted pickaxe to collect the live block, which stacks to 64.

  4. 4

Place the block next to water

Set Horn Coral Block down with water or a waterlogged block on at least one of its six faces, or it dies within seconds.

  5. 5

Lock in the water with sponges or kelp

Surround Horn Coral Block with sea lanterns, kelp, or wet sponges so the adjacent water stays in place and the coral never dries out.

Important

A Horn Coral Block dies 3 to 4.95 seconds after losing contact with water in Java Edition, and 2.25 seconds in Bedrock Edition, turning into Dead Horn Coral Block permanently.
