Gray Candle is the gray variant of Minecraft's dyeable candle block, produced only by crafting from a plain Candle and Gray Dye, while the plain Candle itself comes from one String above one Honeycomb on the crafting grid. Up to four identically colored candles share a single block space, and once a candle takes a dye, the color never changes. Ancient cities generate plain and white candles, trial chambers generate plain and red candles, and neither loot chests nor villager trades ever deliver the gray variant, so crafting with Gray Dye is the only route to Gray Candle. Any tool or an empty hand breaks Gray Candle — hardness 0.1, blast resistance 0.1 — and an inventory stack holds 64.

A placed Gray Candle starts unlit; flint and steel, a fire charge, or any flaming projectile lights the wick, and on Bedrock a burning mob or a Fire Aspect sword works just as well. One burning candle shines at light level 3, two candles reach 6, three candles reach 9, and four candles reach 12; candles added to an already-lit cluster catch fire automatically. Water, a wind charge, or a click on the Gray Candle extinguishes the flame — a water bottle also works in Java Edition — while a waterlogged candle refuses to light at all. A single Gray Candle tops an uneaten cake as a candle cake, and the candle drops back when the cake is eaten or destroyed. For deepslate halls and crypt interiors, Gray Candle adds a quiet, gray-toned glow that matches stone and deepslate palettes.
