Mod Vanilla
Game versions

Description

Gray Bundle is the gray-dyed variant of the bundle, an item that keeps a mixed set of items in one inventory slot. Gray Bundle is crafted shapeless from any bundle plus Gray Dye, while a plain bundle comes from 1 String placed above 1 Leather. Dyed bundles appeared in Java Edition 1.21.2 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.40, and Gray Bundle is renewable (it can be crafted endlessly) but does not stack.

Gray Bundle holds up to one stack's worth of items, so capacity is counted in fractions of the bundle: a Stick, which stacks to 64, takes 1/64; an Ender Pearl or an Egg, which stack to 16, take 1/16; and a non-stackable item such as an Iron Sword fills the whole bundle. In Java Edition, the space an item takes equals the reciprocal of its maximum stack size, even when that setting is changed from the item's usual stack size. For example, 32 Sticks and 8 Ender Pearls fill Gray Bundle exactly to the brim.

Guide

How to make and use a Gray Bundle in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft a bundle

Place 1 String above 1 Leather in the crafting grid to get a plain bundle.

  2. 2

    Dye the bundle gray

Put any bundle and 1 Gray Dye anywhere in the crafting grid to craft Gray Bundle.

  3. 3

    Fill Gray Bundle

Pick up Gray Bundle with the cursor in the inventory screen and left-click items to put them inside, or hold items and left-click Gray Bundle.

  4. 4

    Take an item out

Hover an empty cursor over Gray Bundle, scroll to select an item, and right-click to move it to the cursor; right-clicking without scrolling takes the most recently added item.

  5. 5

    Throw the contents

Select Gray Bundle in the hotbar and use it to throw out one group of items at a time in the facing direction.

Read the fullness bar

The bar on the Gray Bundle icon appears once an item is inside, stays blue while space remains and turns red when Gray Bundle is full.

Frequently asked questions

Can Gray Bundle go inside another bundle?

A bundle can be nested inside another bundle and takes 1/16 of the outer space plus the space of its own contents. A Shulker Box cannot go into any bundle, but Gray Bundle fits inside a Shulker Box.

What happens to the items if Gray Bundle is destroyed?

The contents drop as separate items when Gray Bundle lying on the ground is destroyed, for example by Fire or a Cactus.

Can Gray Bundle be dyed another color?

Yes, any bundle combined with a matching dye turns into the bundle of that color, so Gray Bundle can be re-dyed with another dye. Java Edition does not allow dyeing a bundle with the color it already has.

Where can a bundle be found without crafting?

Bundles appear in some village chests since Java Edition 1.21.5 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.70; Gray Bundle itself is made by adding Gray Dye to one.

Why do bundles come in only 16 colors instead of any shade?

The Mojang developers chose 16 fixed dye colors instead of free mixing like leather armor, so players can recognize a bundle's color and judge its contents at a glance and artists can tune each of the 16 textures.
