Description

Dragon Head is a decorative mob head that depicts the Ender Dragon and generates naturally on the bow of End ships inside End cities. Dragon Head was added in Java Edition 1.9 and Bedrock Edition 1.0, and Dragon Head is the only mob head in Minecraft that animates on its own — its jaw opens and closes whenever the block receives a redstone signal. You collect Dragon Head by mining it with any tool or even a bare hand; Dragon Head always drops itself and never requires Silk Touch.

Dragon Head can be placed on the floor in 16 rotations or mounted on a wall, and Dragon Head can be worn in the helmet slot as a purely cosmetic disguise that grants no armor. Builders use Dragon Head for boss-arena trophies, throne rooms, and animated statues wired to a redstone clock so the mouth keeps moving. Because only one Dragon Head spawns per End ship and End cities are finite, Dragon Head is a non-renewable trophy block that marks a completed End-game exploration run.

How to get and use a Dragon Head in Minecraft

    Reach an End city with a ship

    Travel to the outer End islands and find an End city that has a docked End ship; a single Dragon Head sits on the ship's bow.

    Mine the Dragon Head

    Break the Dragon Head with any tool or your bare hand. Dragon Head drops itself every time, so Silk Touch is not required.

    Place or wear it

    Place Dragon Head on a floor or wall to decorate, or equip it in the helmet slot for a cosmetic Ender Dragon disguise.

    Animate the jaw with redstone

    Supply the block with a redstone signal. Power makes Dragon Head open and close its mouth — the only head animation in Minecraft.

Power note

In both Java and Bedrock Edition, Dragon Head only animates while it receives redstone power; with no power the mouth stays closed.
