Description

Cyan Banner is a decorative block that players craft from six Cyan Wool and one Stick: the wool fills a 3×2 block and the Stick sits directly below the middle. Cyan Wool comes from dyeing wool with Cyan Dye, and Cyan Dye is made from one Blue Dye and one Green Dye, which yields two dyes. Cyan Banner has hardness 1 and blast resistance 1 (how well the block withstands explosions), and its base color cannot be changed once crafted. Cyan Banner has been part of Java Edition since 1.8 and of Bedrock Edition since 1.2.0.

Cyan Banner takes up to six pattern layers when a Loom applies dyes and banner patterns, and using it on a Cauldron filled with water washes off the top layer. Cyan Banner stands on the ground in 16 directions or hangs on a wall, sways gently, and has no collision, so players and mobs walk straight through it. Cyan Banner can be combined with a Shield on a Crafting Table to give the Shield the same design, which uses up the banner. In Java Edition, using a Map on Cyan Banner places a marker in the banner's base color on that Map.

Guide

How to make and use a Cyan Banner in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Make Cyan Dye

One Blue Dye and one Green Dye on a Crafting Table give two Cyan Dye. A single Pitcher Plant also gives two Cyan Dye.

  2. 2

    Dye the wool

Cyan Dye turns a block of wool into Cyan Wool, and Cyan Banner needs six of them.

  3. 3

    Craft the banner

Six Cyan Wool in a 3×2 block with a Stick directly below the middle make one Cyan Banner on a Crafting Table.

  4. 4

    Add patterns

A Loom adds up to six pattern layers, and every pattern needs a dye; some also need a Banner Pattern item, which the Loom does not consume.

Renaming

An Anvil renames Cyan Banner, and the custom name survives placing, picking up, and adding or removing layers.

Frequently asked questions

Does Cyan Banner burn?

Cyan Banner does not catch fire from lava or any other source, though lava can ignite air blocks next to it. As furnace fuel, Cyan Banner smelts 1.5 items.

Can Cyan Banner be copied?

Yes. A patterned Cyan Banner and a blank banner of the same base color make two patterned banners on a Crafting Table. In Bedrock Edition, the patterned banner must sit left of or above the blank one.

Which tool breaks Cyan Banner fastest?

An axe is fastest, but Cyan Banner breaks with any tool or bare hands, taking 1.5 seconds without a tool. Cyan Banner also drops as an item when the block that supports it is removed.

Can pistons move Cyan Banner?

No, pistons cannot move Cyan Banner. Water and lava flow around Cyan Banner.
