Description

Crimson Pressure Plate is the Nether-wood version of the wooden pressure plate, added in Minecraft 1.16 for Java and Bedrock editions. Placed on the ground, Crimson Pressure Plate reacts to every entity on top — players, mobs, dropped items, arrows, and even experience orbs — and always outputs the maximum redstone signal strength of 15. The recipe costs two crimson planks set side by side and yields one plate. Crimson planks are cut from crimson stems, the trunks of huge crimson fungi that grow only in crimson forests of the Nether, so every crimson wood project starts in the Nether.

In survival worlds, Crimson Pressure Plate works as a floor trigger for hidden doors, traps, and alarms, and the sensitivity to dropped items and arrows lets a circuit fire without a player standing on the plate. Breaking requires no special tool: any tool or a bare hand breaks Crimson Pressure Plate off, and the plate drops itself; an axe works fastest. Hardness 0.5 and blast resistance 0.5 make Crimson Pressure Plate fragile, and a piston push or a destroyed support block knocks the plate loose as an item. Unlike overworld wooden pressure plates, the crimson variant cannot fuel a furnace and cannot catch fire.

Guide

How to Get a Crimson Pressure Plate in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Collect crimson stems

Travel to a crimson forest in the Nether and break the crimson stems of huge crimson fungi; any tool works, and an axe clears a trunk fastest.

  2. 2

    Craft crimson planks

Place one crimson stem on the crafting grid; each stem turns into four crimson planks.

  3. 3

    Craft the pressure plate

Lay two crimson planks side by side in a single row of the crafting grid to receive one Crimson Pressure Plate.

  4. 4

Place the plate and wire the circuit

Set Crimson Pressure Plate on a solid surface and run redstone dust nearby; any entity that steps on top triggers the maximum signal strength 15.

Where the plate can sit

A Crimson Pressure Plate can also be placed on fences, glass, glass panes, iron bars, ice, glowstone, and sea lanterns.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Crimson Pressure Plate smelt items as furnace fuel?

No. Crimson and warped pressure plates cannot fuel a furnace at all, while an overworld wooden pressure plate smelts 1.5 items.

How fast does a Crimson Pressure Plate switch off after activation?

Crimson Pressure Plate re-checks for entities every 20 game ticks — one second of game time — and turns off once nothing stands on the plate.

Can mobs spawn on top of a Crimson Pressure Plate?

No. Mobs have been unable to spawn on pressure plates since Java Edition 1.9.

Can a Crimson Pressure Plate be waterlogged?

A Crimson Pressure Plate cannot be waterlogged in Java Edition; in Bedrock Edition, the plate can be waterlogged.

Does the Crimson Pressure Plate generate naturally in any structure?

No. Only oak, acacia, and spruce pressure plates appear in generated structures, so crimson plates always come from crafting.
