Description

Cornflower generates in plains, sunflower plains, and flower forest biomes. It stands as a single-block plant with a cluster of small, vivid blue petals, giving it a color that is more saturated and distinct than the lighter hues of azure bluet. The flower is one of only a few naturally occurring sources of blue dye without smelting or trading.

Crafting one cornflower in any slot of the crafting grid yields one blue dye. Blue dye has many uses: coloring wool, terracotta, concrete powder, glass, shulker boxes, candles, beds, banners, and leather armor. It also serves as an ingredient when mixing dyes to produce cyan, purple, or green.

Like most small flowers, cornflower can be combined with a bowl, a red mushroom, and a brown mushroom on the crafting table to make suspicious stew; this variant applies the jump boost effect. Bone meal applied to the flower on grass will spread additional specimens nearby. Bees regularly visit it during foraging flights, and the item can be used in a composter.

How to find and use Cornflower in Minecraft

  1. 1

Find it in plains or flower forest

Cornflower generates naturally on grass blocks in plains, sunflower plains, and flower forest biomes. Walk through these biomes and pick the tall blue flowers by breaking them; they drop instantly with no tool required.

  2. 2

    Farm more with bone meal

Use bone meal on a grass block inside a plains or flower forest biome to spawn extra flowers, including Cornflower. This makes Cornflower a renewable source you can harvest repeatedly.

  3. 3

    Craft blue dye

Place one Cornflower in any slot of the crafting grid to get one blue dye. Blue dye colors wool, terracotta, concrete powder, glass, beds, banners, and leather armor.

  4. 4

Make a Jump Boost suspicious stew

Combine a bowl, a red mushroom, a brown mushroom, and one Cornflower on the crafting table to brew suspicious stew that grants the Jump Boost effect for 6 seconds.

Edition note

Cornflower was added in Java Edition 1.14 and Bedrock Edition 1.11. Both editions craft it into the same blue dye and accept it in a composter (65% chance to raise compost).
