Description

Copper Sword is a melee weapon added to Minecraft in Java Edition 1.21.9 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.100, crafted from two copper ingots stacked vertically above a single stick on a crafting table. Copper Sword deals 5 attack damage in Java Edition (6 in Bedrock Edition) at an attack speed of 1.6, matching a stone sword's hit but with 190 durability in Java versus stone's 131 — a roughly 45 percent increase. Copper Sword fills the tier gap between stone and iron, giving early-game players a longer-lasting blade before iron tools become practical.

Copper Sword accepts the standard sword enchantments: Sharpness, Smite, and Bane of Arthropods for damage, plus Looting, Knockback, Fire Aspect, Sweeping Edge (Java only), Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing. Copper is a renewable resource (drowned mobs drop copper ingots, and raw copper smelts into ingots), so Copper Sword can be produced indefinitely once a copper supply is established. The recipe yields exactly one Copper Sword per craft, and two damaged Copper Swords can combine in an anvil or grindstone to pool durability with a 5 percent bonus.

How to craft and use a Copper Sword in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Smelt copper ingots

Mine raw copper from copper ore veins found in any Overworld biome, then smelt the raw copper in a furnace to get copper ingots. Two ingots are needed for one Copper Sword.

  2. 2

    Open a crafting table

Place a crafting table and right-click it to open the 3x3 grid. The Copper Sword recipe needs the full grid, not the 2x2 inventory crafting.

  3. 3

    Arrange the recipe vertically

Put one copper ingot in the top-middle slot, a second copper ingot in the center slot, and one stick in the bottom-middle slot. The vertical line yields one Copper Sword.

  4. 4

    Enchant the Copper Sword

Use an enchanting table or an anvil with enchanted books. Sharpness raises general damage, Unbreaking extends the 190 durability, and Looting increases mob drops.

  5. 5

Repair with an anvil or grindstone

Combine two damaged Copper Swords in an anvil or grindstone to add their remaining durability plus a 5 percent bonus, or use Mending to let experience points repair the blade.

Edition difference

Copper Sword deals 5 attack damage in Java Edition but 6 in Bedrock Edition. Sweeping Edge enchantment works only in Java Edition.
