Description

Copper Spear is a copper-tier melee weapon in Minecraft, crafted from 1 copper ingot and 2 sticks on a crafting table. It deals 2 attack damage (one heart) in Java Edition and 3 in Bedrock, with an attack speed of 1.18 and 190 durability, placing it between the stone and iron spear tiers. The Copper Spear's main advantage is reach: a spear hits targets up to 4.5 blocks away, far beyond a sword's range, so you can strike skeletons and creepers before they reach you. Holding the attack button performs a charge attack whose damage scales with your movement speed, rewarding players who sprint or ride a mount into the hit. Copper Spears cannot land critical hits or sprint-knockback blows, and they generate in village weaponsmith chests, so you can find one before mining any copper. The weapon was added in the Java 1.21.11 and Bedrock 1.21.130 update.

How to craft and use a Copper Spear in Minecraft

    Smelt copper ingots

    Mine copper ore with a stone pickaxe or better, then smelt the raw copper in a furnace to get copper ingots.

    Open a crafting table

    Right-click a crafting table to access the full 3x3 grid; the 2x2 inventory grid is too small for a spear.

    Place the spear pattern

    Put 1 copper ingot in the top-right cell and 2 sticks running diagonally down to the bottom-left to craft the Copper Spear.

    Jab and charge

    Left-click for a quick jab from up to 4.5 blocks away, or hold the attack to build a charge attack that hits harder the faster you move.

Reach over speed

The Copper Spear attacks slower than a sword and can't land critical hits, but its extra range lets you fight skeletons and creepers safely. Sprint or ride a horse into the charge attack for the most damage.
