Description

Copper Lantern is a copper variant of the lantern that burns with a green flame and emits light level 15, the maximum brightness in Minecraft. A Copper Lantern is crafted from 8 copper nuggets surrounding a copper torch in the 3×3 crafting grid, and the recipe yields 1 lantern. Copper Lantern stacks to 64 and breaks with any tool, although a pickaxe is the fastest.

Copper Lantern passes through four oxidation stages, and the last stage turns the texture teal with green spots. Brightness never drops along the way, because even an oxidized Copper Lantern still emits light level 15. A honeycomb used on a Copper Lantern coats the block in wax and stops oxidation for good, while an axe or a lightning bolt strips oxidation that has already appeared. Waxed Copper Lantern keeps the stage it had when the wax went on, so a builder waits for the preferred color first and applies the honeycomb second.

Guide

How to craft and use a Copper Lantern in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft the lantern

A copper torch goes in the center of the 3×3 crafting grid, and 8 copper nuggets fill the surrounding slots, which crafts 1 Copper Lantern.

  2. 2

    Place or hang the lantern

The top face of a block holds a standing Copper Lantern when the use button is pressed on it, and the bottom face of a block holds a hanging Copper Lantern.

  3. 3

    Wax the lantern

A honeycomb and a Copper Lantern together in the crafting grid craft Waxed Copper Lantern, which never oxidizes.

  4. 4

    Scrape the oxidation

An axe used on an oxidized Copper Lantern scrapes the oxidation off.

Tip

Copper Lantern breaks and drops itself when the supporting block is moved or destroyed, so a lantern belongs on or under blocks that stay put.
