Description

Copper Chain is a decoration block that a crafting table makes from one copper ingot and two copper nuggets, one chain per craft. Copper Chain is the copper variant of Iron Chain, the block that Java Edition 1.21.9 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.111 renamed from plain Chain when copper chains arrived. Copper Chain stacks to 64, is renewable (copper can be obtained again without limit), is transparent, and can be waterlogged (hold water in the same space).

Copper Chain passes through four oxidation stages: unoxidized, exposed, weathered and oxidized, first picking up green spots, then turning green with brown spots, and finally teal. Honeycomb combined with Copper Chain produces the matching waxed variant, which stops oxidizing. Copper Chain needs no supporting block, so it can float in mid air along any of three axes. Bells and lanterns, Copper Lantern included, hang from Copper Chain, with the chain texture joining the lantern's own chain.

How to craft and use a Copper Chain in Minecraft

    Craft the chain

    Put one copper ingot between two copper nuggets in a vertical line on a crafting table to craft one Copper Chain.

    Place it anywhere

    Place Copper Chain in mid air or against any block, since no supporting block is required, and let the chain run vertically, east–west or north–south.

    Hang a light or a bell

    Hang a Copper Lantern, a Lantern, a Soul Lantern or a Bell below a vertical Copper Chain.

    Wax the chain

    Combine Copper Chain with Honeycomb in the crafting grid to craft the matching waxed chain, which keeps the current oxidation stage.

    Break the chain

    Break Copper Chain with any pickaxe; mining it without a pickaxe drops nothing.

Undo oxidation

Using an axe on Copper Chain or a Lightning Bolt striking it removes the oxidation.
