Copper Axe
Copper Axe is the tier-four chopping tool added in Minecraft 1.21.9, crafted from three copper ingots and two sticks to fell wood faster than stone but slower than iron.
Description
Copper Ingots, the only repair material for a Copper Axe, are themselves renewable through Drowned drops, so a Drowned farm keeps the tool supplied without mining more ore. Copper ore generates between Y=-16 and Y=112 with the peak density at Y=48, and each ore block drops 2 to 5 Raw Copper without Fortune, so a short mining trip stocks enough ingots for several Copper Axes. Because the copper tier sits between stone and iron, a Copper Axe is the natural upgrade the moment copper is more plentiful than iron — ideal for chopping wood in a new survival base before a player commits scarce iron ingots to axes.

How to craft a Copper Axe in Minecraft
-
1
Mine copper ore
Copper ore generates between Y=-16 and Y=112, densest at Y=48; each block drops 2 to 5 Raw Copper without Fortune.
-
2
Smelt Raw Copper into ingots
Smelt Raw Copper in a furnace or blast furnace to produce Copper Ingots — three ingots are needed for one Copper Axe.
-
3
Open the 3x3 crafting grid
A 3x3 crafting grid from a Crafting Table is required, because the Copper Axe recipe does not fit in the 2x2 inventory grid.
-
4
Place three copper ingots across the top
Fill the entire top row of the grid with three Copper Ingots to form the axe head.
-
5
Add two sticks below the ingots
Place one Stick in the middle slot of the second row and one Stick in the middle slot of the third row to complete the handle and craft one Copper Axe.
The Copper Axe sits between the Stone Axe and the Iron Axe: faster than stone, slower than iron, with 190 durability in Java Edition.
