Description

Cooked Salmon is the high-tier fish food in Minecraft, smelting one raw salmon in a furnace, smoker, or campfire into one cooked piece that restores 6 hunger points and 9.6 saturation. Those numbers make Cooked Salmon the most nourishing of all cooked fish varieties, beating Cooked Cod's 5 hunger and 6 saturation by a clear margin. Raw salmon comes from fishing in any body of water with a fishing rod, from guardians in ocean monuments, or from salmon mobs that spawn in cold rivers, frozen rivers, and oceans — so the cooked item is renewable (you can farm it endlessly by fishing and breeding the supply). A stack of 64 lets a survivor carry a long expedition's worth of food in a single inventory slot.

The main use of Cooked Salmon is emergency healing for tamed wolves: feeding one piece to an injured wolf restores 12 health points, double the 6 hunger it gives a player. Apprentice-level fisherman villagers also buy 6 raw salmon and an emerald in exchange for 6 cooked salmon, turning surplus catch into profit. Cooked Salmon cannot be crafted into other items and is not flammable as a food item, so the practical play is to keep a stack near a wolf kennel or a long caving trip where the high saturation keeps the hunger bar from draining between fights.

How to get and use Cooked Salmon in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Catch raw salmon

Use a fishing rod in any open water, or kill salmon mobs that swim in cold rivers, frozen rivers, and oceans.

  2. 2

    Cook the salmon

Place one raw salmon in the top slot of a furnace, smoker, or campfire with any fuel below; each piece takes about 10 seconds in a furnace and 5 seconds in a smoker.

  3. 3

    Eat to restore hunger

Hold the cooked salmon and press the use key to eat it, restoring 6 hunger points and 9.6 saturation.

  4. 4

    Heal a tamed wolf

Feed one cooked salmon to a wolf that is below full health to restore 12 health points.

Fastest cooking method

A smoker cooks food twice as fast as a regular furnace, so it is the best tool for turning a stack of raw salmon into Cooked Salmon.
