Description
The entry is useful anywhere items must move farther than a hopper line can reasonably cover. Mines can send ore to a surface sorter, farms can dispatch harvests to a central warehouse, and adventure maps can deliver supplies along scripted routes. Unlike a stationary chest, it can be recalled, redirected, or timed by redstone, making storage part of the transport network instead of a dead end.

Craft the cart
Combine one chest and one minecart anywhere in the crafting grid to make a Minecart with Chest. The recipe is shapeless, so slot position does not matter.

Place it on rails
Lay down rails, then right-click a rail with the Minecart with Chest to set the cart on the track. It will not stay on plain ground.

Load it with a hopper
Put a hopper feeding into a stopped Minecart with Chest, or run the cart over a hopper, so items flow into its 27-slot inventory automatically.

Push it with powered rails
Place powered rails activated by redstone along the route so the Minecart with Chest accelerates toward the destination station.

Unload at the station
Stop the Minecart with Chest over a hopper, or pair a detector rail with a hopper, so the cart empties its contents into storage on arrival.
A Minecart with Chest cannot be opened while it is moving. Stop the cart first, then right-click it to access the 27 inventory slots. Breaking the cart drops the minecart, the chest, and every stored item separately.
