Description

Campfire is crafted from three sticks, three logs, and one piece of coal or charcoal in the standard pattern. The block has an unusual triple identity. As cooking equipment, it accepts up to four food items placed on its grill (right-click with raw meat or fish), cooks each in thirty seconds, and pops the cooked result into the world for collection — all without consuming fuel or coal beyond the recipe.

As a light source, it emits level fifteen — the maximum — making it a generous primary light for outdoor builds. Smoke particles drift upward continuously, doubling the height when a hay bale is placed underneath, which created the standard village beacon system. As a hazard, players and mobs walking onto an active campfire take one full damage point per tick, making the device an effective passive trap. Right-clicking with a shovel extinguishes the flames; flint-and-steel relights it.

How to use a Campfire in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft the campfire

Place three sticks in the bottom row, one coal or charcoal in the centre, and three logs of any wood along the bottom of a crafting table to make one campfire.

  2. 2

    Place and light it

Set the campfire on top of a solid block; it ignites on placement and emits light level 15. After extinguishing, right-click with flint-and-steel to relight it.

  3. 3

    Cook food without fuel

Right-click raw meat or fish onto the grill to cook up to four items at once. Each piece finishes in about thirty seconds and pops out cooked — no coal or fuel is consumed.

  4. 4

    Build a smoke signal

Place a hay bale directly beneath the campfire to raise the smoke column from roughly ten to about twenty-four blocks, creating a long-range navigation beacon.

Soul Campfire difference

A Soul Campfire — crafted with soul sand or soul soil instead of logs — gives only light level 10, deals 2 damage per tick instead of 1, and scares away piglins and hoglins. Extinguish any campfire with a shovel or water.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make a campfire in Minecraft?

Combine three sticks, one coal or charcoal, and three logs of any wood in a crafting table to craft one campfire.

Does a campfire need fuel to cook?

No. A campfire cooks up to four food items at once without any fuel; each piece takes about thirty seconds, slower than a furnace but free.

How much light does a campfire give?

A regular campfire emits light level 15, the maximum, while a soul campfire emits only level 10.

Can a campfire calm bees?

Yes. Placing a campfire up to five blocks below a beehive or bee nest lets you harvest honey or honeycomb without angering the bees.

What is the difference between a campfire and a soul campfire?

A soul campfire emits level 10 light, deals 2 damage per tick instead of 1, and repels piglins and hoglins in the Nether.
