Brown Bed is a brown-colored variant of the Minecraft bed, a two-block utility block that lets a player in the Overworld sleep through the night and set a spawn point within a few blocks of the bed. One Brown Bed is crafted from three brown wool and three planks of any wood type, because the wool color must match the bed color while the planks are free to differ. A bed of any color can be re-dyed into Brown Bed with brown dye. Colored beds arrived in Java Edition 1.12 and Bedrock Edition 1.1.0, no tool can accelerate breaking a bed, and a destroyed bed drops itself.
Brown Bed turns night into sunrise after the player sleeps for 101 game ticks, or 5.05 seconds, and using the bed in the daytime still sets the spawn point without sleeping. Sleep works when the internal sky light level is 11 or lower, at night or during a thunderstorm, while monsters within 8 blocks of the bed head block the attempt, and every Overworld player must sleep at the same time in multiplayer. Phantoms start spawning around a player who stays awake for three in-game days. Brown Bed explodes with power 5 in the Nether and the End instead of working, and falling players bounce back with 75% of the impact velocity while the counted fall distance drops to 50%. Villagers need spare beds to produce offspring, so a Brown Bed also grows a village.
