Bell
Bell rings to alert villagers and trigger raid notifications — generates in village centres, ringable by hand or redstone.
Description
Right-clicking the block plays a deep ringing sound that propagates outward several blocks, alerting all villagers within range. During a raid, the alert causes villagers to panic and retreat into nearby houses for safety, sometimes preventing kills that would otherwise occur. The block is also redstone-activatable — a button or pressure plate triggers the same ring without requiring direct interaction. Visually it hangs from a curved iron frame and chimes physically when struck, swinging on the frame for a few seconds after each ring. Builders use it as a centrepiece for medieval town squares and watchtower flag points.

How to use a Bell in Minecraft
-
1
Obtain a bell
Bells have no crafting recipe — mine one from a village meeting point with any tool (a pickaxe is fastest) or buy it from an apprentice-level armorer, toolsmith or weaponsmith for 36 emeralds.
-
2
Place and orient it
Place the bell on the floor between two posts, hang it from a ceiling, or attach it to one or two walls. The attachment chosen sets the direction it swings.
-
3
Ring the bell
Right-click the bell, hit it with a projectile such as an arrow or trident, or feed it a redstone pulse from a button or pressure plate.
-
4
Use it during a raid
Ring the bell while a raid is active: if any raider is within 32 blocks, every raid mob within 48 blocks gains a glowing outline for about 3 seconds, visible through walls.
The glowing-outline raid effect is Java Edition behavior. Ringing still sends nearby villagers home to their beds in both Java and Bedrock editions.
