Description

Bee Spawn Egg is a yellow item covered in dark brown spots that spawns a bee when you use it on a block surface in Minecraft. Bee Spawn Egg is available only from the Creative inventory or with the command /give @p bee_spawn_egg, and it cannot be crafted or found in Survival mode. Like every spawn egg, the egg shape is identical across mobs — the yellow base colour with brown spots is what marks Bee Spawn Egg as the bee variant. Bee Spawn Egg was added in Java Edition 1.15, the Buzzy Bees update, and in Bedrock Edition 1.14.

A bee created from a Bee Spawn Egg behaves like any naturally generated bee: it searches for flowers, pollinates them, and carries pollen back to a nearby bee nest or beehive to raise the honey level. Builders use Bee Spawn Egg to populate decorative gardens, kick-start a honey farm without hunting for a wild nest, or test redstone-driven bee contraptions in Creative. A bee only produces honey when a bee nest or beehive and flowers are within range, so place those blocks before spawning bees with Bee Spawn Egg.

Java & Bedrock Guide

How to use a Bee Spawn Egg in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Get the Bee Spawn Egg

Open the Creative inventory and search for Bee Spawn Egg, or run /give @p bee_spawn_egg. The item cannot be obtained or crafted in Survival mode.

  2. 2

    Select it on your hotbar

Move the Bee Spawn Egg to your hotbar and select its slot so it is the active item in your hand.

  3. 3

    Use it on a block

Aim at the top of a solid block and right-click (use item) to spawn a bee at that spot. Each use spends one Bee Spawn Egg.

  4. 4

    Set up a honey source

Place a bee nest or beehive and several flowers nearby so the spawned bee can pollinate and fill the hive with honey.

Bedrock tip

In Bedrock Edition, using a Bee Spawn Egg on an existing adult bee spawns a baby bee instead of a second adult.
