Description

Bee Nest generates naturally on oak or birch trees that spawn within two blocks of a flower, typically in meadow, plains, and flower forest biomes. Each nest houses up to three bees, which exit during the day to collect pollen and return to deposit honey. The honey level advances from 0 to 5 as bees make trips; at level 5 the nest drips visually.

Harvesting at level 5 with an empty bottle collects a honey bottle; using shears collects three honeycomb items. Both actions reset the honey level to 0 and anger nearby bees unless a campfire or lit fire is placed within five blocks directly below the nest. Bees become aggressive when the nest is broken without Silk Touch or without smoke nearby, stinging and applying the Poison effect.

Players use bee nests in honey farms by placing campfires, dispensers with bottles, and redstone timing to automate collection. Honeycomb crafts beehives, honeycomb blocks, and is used for waxing copper blocks to halt oxidation.

Java & Bedrock Guide

How to harvest honey from a Bee Nest in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Find a Bee Nest

Locate a Bee Nest hanging under oak or birch trees in meadow, plains, or flower forest biomes; bees fly in and out during the daytime.

  2. 2

    Place a campfire below

Set a lit campfire 1 to 5 blocks directly under the Bee Nest so its smoke calms the bees and stops them attacking when you harvest.

  3. 3

    Wait for honey level 5

Let bees complete pollination trips until the Bee Nest shows dripping honey on its front face, which marks honey level 5.

  4. 4

Harvest with a bottle or shears

Use a glass bottle on the Bee Nest to collect a honey bottle, or shears to collect 3 honeycomb; harvesting resets the level to 0.

Important

Without campfire smoke, harvesting or breaking a Bee Nest angers nearby bees, which sting and apply the Poison effect. Mine the nest with a Silk Touch tool to relocate it with the bees still inside.

Frequently asked questions

Can you craft a Bee Nest in Minecraft?

No. Bee Nest only generates naturally on oak and birch trees near flowers and cannot be crafted. The craftable equivalent is the Beehive, made from 6 wooden planks and 3 honeycomb.

How do you move a Bee Nest with bees inside?

Mine the Bee Nest with a Silk Touch tool to keep all bees inside. Breaking it without Silk Touch destroys the nest and releases angry bees.

What is the difference between a Bee Nest and a Beehive?

Bee Nest spawns naturally in the world, while Beehive is crafted. Both hold up to 3 bees, fill with honey the same way, and are harvested identically.

How do you collect honey without angering the bees?

Place a lit campfire within 5 blocks directly below the Bee Nest. The smoke pacifies the bees, so harvesting with a bottle or shears is safe.

Is honey from a Bee Nest renewable?

Yes. Bees keep refilling the Bee Nest from nearby flowers, so it produces honey bottles and honeycomb endlessly as long as flowers are available.
