How to Make Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rod in Minecraft
Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rod
Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rod keeps a copper lightning rod at its final teal oxidation stage (weathering that recolors copper) while still diverting lightning.
Description
Like every lightning rod, Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rod pulls natural lightning to itself: with open sky above and no blocks higher in its column, strikes within 128 blocks in Java Edition or 64 blocks in Bedrock Edition hit the rod instead of the terrain. Each strike fires a redstone pulse that powers the attached block at level 15 for 8 game ticks (0.4 seconds), which turns Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rod into a compact thunderstorm detector. The wax decides the look: lightning reduces oxidation only on unwaxed rods, so the teal finish survives every strike until an axe scrapes the wax off with white particles.

Guide
How to craft and use a Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rod in Minecraft
-
1
Craft a plain Lightning Rod
Place 3 Copper Ingots in a vertical column on the crafting grid; the recipe yields 1 Lightning Rod.
-
2
Weather the rod to teal
Leave the Lightning Rod unwaxed outdoors so oxidation runs through the exposed and weathered stages and stops at the oxidized teal color.
-
3
Seal the rod with wax
Combine the Oxidized Lightning Rod with 1 Honeycomb on the crafting grid for 1 Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rod, or use a Honeycomb directly on the placed rod.
-
4
Mount the rod under open sky
Set the Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rod as the highest block of its column with nothing above; the rod then diverts natural strikes within 128 blocks in Java Edition and 64 blocks in Bedrock Edition.
-
5
Catch the redstone pulse
Wire the block the rod is attached to, because every strike emits a redstone signal at level 15 for 8 game ticks (0.4 seconds).
Mine the Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rod with a stone pickaxe or better; any weaker tool or a bare hand drops nothing.

Frequently asked questions
Does a Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rod need grounding?
No. A Minecraft lightning rod works without any connection to the ground; only clear sky above the rod matters.
Can a Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rod be triggered on demand?
Yes. A trident enchanted with Channeling thrown at the rod during a thunderstorm calls down a strike, as long as every block above the rod stays fully transparent.
Can the Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rod stand in water?
Yes. Lightning rods are waterloggable (water can share the block space), and the copper rod itself neither burns nor is destroyed by lava.
Is a Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rod safe near wooden builds?
Partly. In Java Edition a strike can ignite flammable blocks in the 3×3×3 space above the rod, though the rod itself and the block it sits on never catch fire.
How close can two Waxed Oxidized Lightning Rods sit to each other?
At any distance. When several lightning rods are in range of one strike, Minecraft chooses the rod closest to the original strike location.
