Description

Waxed Oxidized Copper Chain is the final, wax-sealed stage of the copper chain, a directional decorative block added to Minecraft in Java Edition 1.21.9 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.111. Oxidation moves a copper chain through four stages, and the teal surface with green spots marks the last one. One Oxidized Copper Chain plus one Honeycomb on the crafting grid yields the Waxed Oxidized Copper Chain, and using a Honeycomb on a placed Oxidized Copper Chain works too. The wax freezes the look in place: oxidation cannot progress any further, and lightning, which strips all oxidation from non-waxed copper, leaves a waxed chain untouched.

Waxed Oxidized Copper Chain behaves like every other chain in Minecraft. Chains need no supporting block: chains stand free in mid-air and rotate horizontally or vertically, and pistons push chains without breaking them. Chains suspend lanterns, bells and hanging signs, so the teal links complete any oxidized copper build. Any pickaxe mines a copper chain, starting with a wooden one; mining without a pickaxe drops nothing. Waxed Oxidized Copper Chain stacks to 64 and has hardness 5 and blast resistance 6, and water can fill the same block space as the chain.

Guide

How to get Waxed Oxidized Copper Chain in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft a Copper Chain

Place one Copper Nugget, one Copper Ingot and a second Copper Nugget in a vertical line on the crafting grid; the column yields one Copper Chain.

  2. 2

    Let the chain oxidize

Place the Copper Chain in the world and wait: oxidation relies only on random ticks, so rain and water change nothing, and the chain slowly reaches the teal final stage of the Oxidized Copper Chain.

  3. 3

    Wax the oxidized chain

Combine one Oxidized Copper Chain with one Honeycomb on the crafting grid, or use the Honeycomb directly on the placed chain, and the Waxed Oxidized Copper Chain is ready.

  4. 4

    Place the chain freely

Set the Waxed Oxidized Copper Chain vertically or horizontally with no supporting block needed; the wax keeps the teal color permanent, even against lightning.

  5. 5

    Mine the chain back

Break the chain with any pickaxe — wooden or better — to collect the Waxed Oxidized Copper Chain again; without a pickaxe, a chain drops nothing.

Axes undo the wax

Using an axe on a Waxed Oxidized Copper Chain removes the wax first and returns a plain Oxidized Copper Chain — the Honeycomb is not refunded — and further scrapes strip the oxidation layer by layer.

Frequently asked questions

What does waxing do to an oxidized copper chain?

The Honeycomb wax locks in the teal final stage: oxidation stops entirely, and a lightning strike, which strips all oxidation from non-waxed copper, leaves a waxed chain untouched. Only a player with an axe can change the color again.

How do I remove the wax from a Waxed Oxidized Copper Chain?

Use an axe on the chain: the first scrape removes the wax and returns a plain Oxidized Copper Chain, and the Honeycomb is not returned. Every further scrape removes one oxidation layer, stepping the color back through the earlier stages.

Does the waxed chain look different from the unwaxed one?

No. Waxed blocks keep the exact texture of unwaxed ones, so a Waxed Oxidized Copper Chain looks identical to an Oxidized Copper Chain.

Do copper chains block players from walking through?

Horizontal chains one block above the ground can be walked over, while chains two blocks above stop players from passing. Vertical chains block travel only when targeted directly, so players can skirt around them.

Can the Waxed Oxidized Copper Chain hang in water?

Yes. Copper chains are waterloggable, meaning water fills the same block space as the chain, and the teal links keep hanging there.

Is the Waxed Oxidized Copper Chain renewable?

Yes, copper chains count as a renewable resource (the supply is not limited), and waxing costs exactly one Honeycomb per chain.
