Description

Waxed Exposed Copper Chest is the honeycomb-sealed variant of the copper chest, a copper storage block added with The Copper Age drop in Java 1.21.9 and Bedrock 1.21.100. The honeycomb wax locks oxidation at the exposed stage — the first of four — so the discolored surface keeps its green spots instead of progressing to weathered and oxidized teal. A single Waxed Exposed Copper Chest functions almost identically to a wooden chest, and two placed side by side merge into a large chest with 54 slots. Waxed Exposed Copper Chest registers hardness 3, blast resistance 6, a stack limit of 64, and waterlogging support.

The crafting recipe combines 1 Exposed Copper Chest and 1 Honeycomb into 1 Waxed Exposed Copper Chest, and using a Honeycomb directly on a placed Exposed Copper Chest seals the same wax. Mining Waxed Exposed Copper Chest requires a stone pickaxe or better. Builders get a frozen green-spotted copper tone that never shifts to weathered or oxidized.

Guide

How to craft a Waxed Exposed Copper Chest in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft a copper chest

Place 8 Copper Ingots around 1 Chest in the crafting grid to produce 1 Copper Chest.

  2. 2

    Wait for the exposed stage

Leave the Copper Chest out in the world; oxidation advances through four stages, and the exposed stage appears first as a discolored surface with green spots.

  3. 3

    Seal with Honeycomb

Combine 1 Exposed Copper Chest and 1 Honeycomb in the crafting grid to receive 1 Waxed Exposed Copper Chest; using a Honeycomb on the placed chest works the same way.

  4. 4

    Collect with a stone pickaxe

Break the finished chest with a stone pickaxe or better whenever the build needs to move.

Keep the wax intact

A large chest assembled from halves with different waxing takes the least oxidized stage and counts as unwaxed when either half is unwaxed, so pair a Waxed Exposed Copper Chest with another waxed half; in Java Edition, sneaking while placing the second chest keeps both chests small.

Frequently asked questions

Does wax stop a copper golem from taking items?

No. A copper golem checks up to 10 copper chests and takes up to 16 of the first item found, regardless of oxidation or waxed status.

What drops when a Waxed Exposed Copper Chest is mined with the wrong tool?

Only the stored contents drop, and the chest itself is lost. A stone pickaxe or better is required to break the chest and keep the block.

Can pistons move a Waxed Exposed Copper Chest in Java Edition?

No. Copper chests cannot be moved by pistons or sticky pistons in Java Edition.

Do piglins react to a Waxed Exposed Copper Chest?

Yes. Piglins become hostile toward any player who opens or breaks a copper chest, including waxed variants.

What stops a Waxed Exposed Copper Chest from opening?

A conductive block placed above the chest and a cat sitting on top both keep the lid shut. Copper chests are non-conductive, so two chests stack with the lower one still opening.
