Description

The Villager Spawn Egg is a Creative-mode item that instantly spawns a villager (minecraft:villager) wherever you use it. You cannot craft it or find it in Survival — it appears only in the Spawn Eggs tab of the Creative inventory or through the /give @s minecraft:villager_spawn_egg command. Right-click a solid block to spawn an adult villager; its outfit (plains, desert, jungle, savanna, swamp, taiga, or snowy) is chosen from the biome where it is placed, not from the egg itself. Right-clicking an existing adult villager with the egg spawns a baby villager instead, which is handy for jump-starting a breeding colony. A freshly spawned villager has no profession until it claims a nearby job-site block such as a Composter, Lectern, or Cartography Table. Since the 1.13 update in Java Edition, the item carries its own dedicated ID minecraft:villager_spawn_egg, replacing the old damage-value spawn-egg system. Builders and map makers rely on the egg to populate custom villages, test trading halls, or stage iron farms without waiting for natural spawns.

How to use a Villager Spawn Egg in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Get the spawn egg

Open the Creative inventory and find the Villager Spawn Egg under the Spawn Eggs tab, or run /give @s minecraft:villager_spawn_egg.

  2. 2

    Choose the biome

Stand in the biome whose villager outfit you want — plains, desert, jungle, savanna, swamp, taiga, or snowy — because the placement decides the look.

  3. 3

    Spawn the villager

Right-click (or tap) a solid block to spawn an adult villager that has no profession yet.

  4. 4

    Give it a job

Place a job-site block like a Composter or Lectern within range so the villager can claim a profession and start trading.

Tip

Right-click an existing adult villager with the egg to spawn a baby villager and speed up a breeding colony.

Frequently asked questions

Can you craft a Villager Spawn Egg?

No. It is a Creative-only item; you obtain it from the Creative inventory or with /give and cannot craft or find it in Survival.

What does a Villager Spawn Egg spawn?

It spawns an adult villager (minecraft:villager). Right-clicking an existing villager with it spawns a baby instead.

Why do my villagers look different?

A spawned villager's outfit comes from the biome it is placed in — plains, desert, jungle, savanna, swamp, taiga, or snowy — not from the egg.

Does the spawned villager have a job?

No. It starts unemployed and only gains a profession after it claims a nearby job-site block such as a Lectern or Composter.

Does it work in both Java and Bedrock?

Yes. The Villager Spawn Egg exists in both editions and spawns a villager the same way.
