How to use a Villager Spawn Egg in Minecraft
-
1
Get the spawn egg
Open the Creative inventory and find the Villager Spawn Egg under the Spawn Eggs tab, or run /give @s minecraft:villager_spawn_egg.
-
2
Choose the biome
Stand in the biome whose villager outfit you want — plains, desert, jungle, savanna, swamp, taiga, or snowy — because the placement decides the look.
-
3
Spawn the villager
Right-click (or tap) a solid block to spawn an adult villager that has no profession yet.
-
4
Give it a job
Place a job-site block like a Composter or Lectern within range so the villager can claim a profession and start trading.
Right-click an existing adult villager with the egg to spawn a baby villager and speed up a breeding colony.

Frequently asked questions
Can you craft a Villager Spawn Egg?
No. It is a Creative-only item; you obtain it from the Creative inventory or with /give and cannot craft or find it in Survival.
What does a Villager Spawn Egg spawn?
It spawns an adult villager (minecraft:villager). Right-clicking an existing villager with it spawns a baby instead.
Why do my villagers look different?
A spawned villager's outfit comes from the biome it is placed in — plains, desert, jungle, savanna, swamp, taiga, or snowy — not from the egg.
Does the spawned villager have a job?
No. It starts unemployed and only gains a profession after it claims a nearby job-site block such as a Lectern or Composter.
Does it work in both Java and Bedrock?
Yes. The Villager Spawn Egg exists in both editions and spawns a villager the same way.
