Vault is the per-player loot container in Trial Chambers, opened exactly once per account using a Trial Key.

Description

Vault blocks appear throughout Trial Chambers — underground structures introduced in Java 1.21 — and work as a per-player reward system. When a player interacts with the block while holding a Trial Key, it opens and ejects loot directly at the player's feet. A permanent internal record prevents the same account from claiming rewards a second time, while every other member of the group can still trigger their own bundle from the identical block.

An Ominous variant requires an Ominous Trial Key earned during an active Ominous Trial. Those containers draw from a better loot table and can contain the Heavy Core — the crafting ingredient for the Mace weapon. Neither form can be mined or placed by players in Survival mode; both exist only as structural dungeon furniture. Redstone signals have no interaction with either version.

How to open a Vault in Minecraft

    Find a Trial Chamber

    Explore the deep underground around the deepslate layer in any biome until you reach a Trial Chamber. Each Trial Chamber contains several Vault blocks placed near combat rooms.

    Earn a Trial Key

    Defeat all mobs spawned by a Trial Spawner. Finishing the wave drops a Trial Key, the single-use item that unlocks a normal Vault.

    Unlock the Vault

    Stand next to the Vault while holding the Trial Key and press use. The Vault consumes one key, opens, and ejects your personal loot at your feet.

    Loot together as a group

    Every player spends their own Trial Key on the same Vault, so a full team can each claim a reward from one Vault without competing for items.

Ominous Vaults

An Ominous Vault has a distinct glow and only accepts an Ominous Trial Key earned during an Ominous Trial. Its loot table is stronger and can contain the Heavy Core used to craft the Mace.

Can you craft a Vault in Minecraft?

No. A Vault cannot be crafted. It only generates naturally inside Trial Chambers and is available in the Creative inventory, but Survival players cannot craft or obtain it.

Can you mine a Vault and take it home?

No. A Vault cannot be broken or collected in Survival with any tool; it stays in place as permanent structural dungeon furniture.

Can multiple players loot the same Vault?

Yes. A Vault tracks each player separately, so every member of a group can unlock the same Vault once with their own Trial Key.
