Description

Torchflower is a decorative flower added in the Trails & Tales update (Java and Bedrock Edition 1.20) and grows from torchflower seeds, which only sniffers dig up from grass and dirt blocks. To get the seeds, players first hatch a sniffer from a sniffer egg found in suspicious sand at warm ocean ruins or suspicious gravel at cold ocean ruins, then let the adult sniffer forage. Planted on farmland, torchflower seeds advance through several growth stages, and bone meal speeds each stage. Despite its glowing torch-like petals, Torchflower emits a light level of 0 and never illuminates an area.

A fully grown Torchflower crafts into one orange dye at a 1:1 ratio, giving an alternative to orange tulips for coloring wool, terracotta, and concrete. Torchflower seeds also breed sniffers: feed the seeds to two adult sniffers to spawn a baby snifflet. Torchflower can be displayed in a flower pot, gets pollinated by bees, and sits on grass, dirt, or farmland for warm-toned garden builds. Its orange-and-yellow bloom suits savanna decoration, archaeology-themed museums, and any build that wants a rare, lore-rich plant tied to Minecraft's ancient sniffer mob.

Minecraft Guide

How to get and use Torchflower in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Hatch a sniffer

Recover a sniffer egg from suspicious sand at warm ocean ruins or suspicious gravel at cold ocean ruins, place it on moss to hatch faster, and wait for the snifflet to grow into an adult sniffer.

  2. 2

    Collect torchflower seeds

Let the adult sniffer wander on grass or dirt; it periodically digs and drops torchflower seeds you can pick up.

  3. 3

    Grow the flower

Plant torchflower seeds on farmland and apply bone meal to rush them through their growth stages into a bloomed Torchflower.

  4. 4

    Use the bloom

Harvest the Torchflower and craft it into one orange dye, replant seeds to breed more sniffers, or pot it as decoration.

Important

Torchflower seeds come only from sniffers — villagers do not sell them and they do not generate in the world directly, making the sniffer the sole renewable source.
