Description

Stone Brick Slab is a half-height variant of Stone Bricks that fills the bottom or top half of a block space and fuses into a double slab when two matching slabs meet. A row of three Stone Bricks on a crafting table yields six Stone Brick Slabs, and a stonecutter cuts two slabs from one Stone Bricks block or from plain Stone, while Cobblestone works only in Bedrock Edition. Stone Brick Slab also generates naturally in strongholds and in ruined portals across the Overworld. Any pickaxe, even a wooden one, harvests Stone Brick Slab; mining by hand drops nothing. Stone Brick Slab stacks to 64, is renewable (players can produce endless new slabs), never catches fire, survives lava, and accepts waterlogging, with hardness 2 and blast resistance 6.

Builders choose Stone Brick Slab wherever full Stone Bricks feel too heavy: the half-height step forms smooth transitions between floor levels, window slits, tabletops, and castle battlements. Two Stone Brick Slabs stacked one above the other in a crafting grid produce a single Chiseled Stone Bricks block. A floor of bottom-placed Stone Brick Slab doubles as a defense layer, because mobs never spawn on a bottom slab while an explosion directly above loses most of its force — a TNT blast sometimes destroys only the Stone Brick Slab beneath it. A double slab made of two matching slabs breaks as one block and drops both Stone Brick Slabs.

Guide

How to Craft and Use Stone Brick Slab in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft slabs from stone bricks

Place three Stone Bricks in one row on a crafting table to receive six Stone Brick Slabs.

  2. 2

    Cut slabs with a stonecutter

Put one Stone Bricks block, or one Stone, into a stonecutter to cut two Stone Brick Slabs; Cobblestone also works, but only in Bedrock Edition.

  3. 3

    Place bottom, top, or double

Click the top face of a block to lay a bottom Stone Brick Slab, click the underside to hang a top slab, and place a matching slab into the same block space to fuse a double slab.

  4. 4

    Mine with any pickaxe

Break Stone Brick Slab with any pickaxe, wooden at minimum, to collect the item; mining by hand drops nothing.

  5. 5

    Craft Chiseled Stone Bricks

Arrange two Stone Brick Slabs one above the other in the crafting grid to create a single Chiseled Stone Bricks block.

Bottom slabs stop mob spawning

A floor laid with bottom-placed Stone Brick Slab stays spawn-free, because mobs cannot spawn on bottom slabs; top slabs and double slabs still allow spawning.

Frequently asked questions

Where does Stone Brick Slab generate naturally?

Stone Brick Slab generates in strongholds and in ruined portals of the Overworld. Ruined portal generation started with Java Edition 1.16 and Bedrock Edition 1.16.0.

How durable is Stone Brick Slab?

Stone Brick Slab has hardness 2 and blast resistance 6. An explosion directly on top of a bottom slab is heavily weakened, and a TNT blast there sometimes destroys only the Stone Brick Slab itself.

Is Stone Brick Slab renewable?

Yes, Stone Brick Slab is renewable, meaning players can produce endless new slabs instead of draining a fixed map supply. One inventory slot holds 64 slabs.

Does Stone Brick Slab burn or break in water?

Stone Brick Slab is not flammable and is not destroyed by lava. A single slab placed into a water source becomes waterlogged and keeps working as a block.
