Squid Spawn Egg is a Creative-only item that instantly spawns a squid when you use it on a block. It cannot be crafted or found in Survival and has no natural generation — you obtain it from the Creative inventory or with the command /give @s minecraft:squid_spawn_egg. The egg is dark teal with lighter blue spots, matching the squid's body color. Right-clicking a water source (or the bottom face of a block in water) places a squid; spawning on dry land fails because squid are aquatic mobs that need water to survive. Each spawned squid is a passive mob that drifts through oceans and rivers and drops 1–3 Ink Sacs when killed, making the egg a fast way to farm black dye without waiting for natural ocean spawns. Squid Spawn Egg works the same in Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, and like every spawn egg it stacks to 64 and is unaffected by the block it is used on. Map makers and builders use it to populate custom aquariums, underwater scenes, and adventure maps with squid exactly where they want them.
