Spruce Wood
Full-bark spruce block crafted from four spruce logs in a 2×2 grid.
Description
The block is mined fastest with an axe and always drops itself when broken. Right-clicking with any axe strips it into Stripped Spruce Wood, exposing the pale inner timber; four stripped logs in a 2×2 grid produce stripped wood directly. It also serves as fuel in a furnace, smelting one and a half items per block. Builders favour it for log cabins, beams and rustic facades where uniform bark is preferred over visible end grain.
Guide
How to craft and use Spruce Wood in Minecraft
-
1
Find spruce trees
Locate spruce trees in taiga, snowy taiga, spruce grove, or old growth taiga biomes. Giant spruce trees grow up to 30+ blocks tall and yield significantly more logs per tree.
-
2
Craft Spruce Wood
Open a crafting table and place 4 spruce logs in a 2×2 square — any slot arrangement works. Each craft yields 3 Spruce Wood blocks.
-
3
Place for uniform bark texture
Place Spruce Wood in builds to display bark on all six faces — ideal for log cabins, rustic beams, and columns where cross-section rings on the top or bottom would look out of place.
-
4
Strip with an axe
Right-click any placed Spruce Wood block with an axe to convert it into Stripped Spruce Wood, exposing pale inner timber. You can also craft Stripped Spruce Wood by placing 4 stripped spruce logs in a 2×2 grid.
-
5
Use as furnace fuel
Place Spruce Wood in the fuel slot of a furnace. Each block smelts 1.5 items — the same fuel value as any other log or wood type in Minecraft.
Spruce Wood cannot substitute for spruce logs in most wood-processing recipes. To craft planks or Stripped Spruce Wood from planks, use the original logs, not the wood block.

Frequently asked questions
How do I craft Spruce Wood?
Place 4 spruce logs in a 2×2 square on a crafting table. The recipe yields 3 Spruce Wood blocks per craft, regardless of exact slot positions.
What is the difference between Spruce Wood and a spruce log?
A spruce log shows bark on the four side faces and cross-section ring patterns on the top and bottom. Spruce Wood displays bark texture on all six faces, making it ideal for builds where a uniform bark appearance is desired.
How do I strip Spruce Wood?
Right-click a placed Spruce Wood block with any axe (wood, stone, iron, gold, diamond, or netherite). The block converts to Stripped Spruce Wood, revealing pale inner timber. Stripped Spruce Wood can also be crafted by placing 4 stripped spruce logs in a 2×2 grid.
Where do spruce trees grow in Minecraft?
Spruce trees spawn in taiga, snowy taiga, spruce grove, and old growth taiga biomes. Old growth taiga contains giant 2×2 spruce trees that reach 30 or more blocks in height.
Can Spruce Wood be used as fuel?
Yes. One Spruce Wood block smelts 1.5 items in a furnace — the same fuel value as any other wood or log type in Minecraft.
Is Spruce Wood flammable?
Yes. Spruce Wood is flammable and can be ignited by fire, lava, or flint and steel. It shares a blast resistance of 3 and hardness of 2 with other wood-type blocks.
