Description

Spruce Pressure Plate is a non-solid wooden redstone block crafted from two Spruce Planks laid in one horizontal row on a crafting table or the 2×2 inventory grid, yielding one plate per recipe. The block carries a hardness of 0.5 and a blast resistance of 0.5, so a single creeper or TNT blast clears Spruce Pressure Plate without effort, yet the plate breaks instantly by hand and only an axe speeds the mining. Unlike stone or iron pressure plates, the wooden variant reacts to almost every entity in the game — players, mobs, dropped items, arrows, experience orbs, and fishing bobbers all trigger Spruce Pressure Plate, and the redstone signal stays at the maximum strength of 15 for as long as anything rests on the plate. Spruce Pressure Plate was added in Java Edition 1.13 alongside the other five wood variants during The Flattening, and the same plate occasionally generates inside snowy tundra village houses, handing builders a free trigger in cold biomes.

Builders wire Spruce Pressure Plate into hidden door triggers, automated farm gates, trap alarms, and item-detector chimes, because the plate responds to a dropped item as readily as to a player, which unlocks item-based sorting and protection systems. The dark brown texture of the spruce variant matches Spruce Planks, Spruce Doors, and Spruce Trapdoors exactly, so a pressure pad sunk flush into a taiga-cabin floor reads as one continuous plank surface instead of a mechanism. Spruce Pressure Plate also works as furnace fuel worth 1.5 smelts per plate, the block is fully transparent and blocks no light, and one stack of 64 plates stores compactly for large redstone builds. For any taiga, snow, or mountain lodge project that needs an invisible, instant trigger, Spruce Pressure Plate is the wood-toned default.

Java Edition Guide

How to craft and use a Spruce Pressure Plate in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Gather Spruce Planks

Chop spruce logs in a taiga or snowy taiga biome and craft each log into four Spruce Planks on a crafting grid.

  2. 2

Place two planks in a row

Lay two Spruce Planks side by side in one horizontal row of the 2×2 inventory crafting grid to output one Spruce Pressure Plate.

  3. 3

Set the plate on a block face

Right-click a solid block's top surface, a fence top, or any full-cube face to place Spruce Pressure Plate flush and non-solid.

  4. 4

    Wire the redstone output

Run redstone dust from the block beneath the plate or set a comparator nearby, because Spruce Pressure Plate emits a 15-power signal to every adjacent face.

  5. 5

    Trigger with any entity

Drop an item, walk over, or send a mob onto Spruce Pressure Plate; the signal fires instantly and holds at strength 15 until the entity leaves.

Edition difference

Java Edition blocks water from flowing through Spruce Pressure Plate, while Bedrock Edition lets the plate be waterlogged and pass current — build accordingly if the contraption sits underwater.

Frequently asked questions

How do you craft a Spruce Pressure Plate?

Place two Spruce Planks in one horizontal row of a crafting grid to make one Spruce Pressure Plate.

What redstone signal strength does a Spruce Pressure Plate output?

A Spruce Pressure Plate always outputs the maximum strength of 15 power, no matter how heavy or light the entity standing on the plate is.

Does a Spruce Pressure Plate detect dropped items?

Yes. Spruce Pressure Plate reacts to dropped items, arrows, minecarts, boats, and most mobs, unlike a stone pressure plate that ignores items.

Can a Spruce Pressure Plate be used as furnace fuel?

Yes. Each Spruce Pressure Plate smelts 1.5 items in a furnace, matching every other overworld wooden pressure plate.

Is a Spruce Pressure Plate waterloggable?

In Bedrock Edition, Spruce Pressure Plate can be waterlogged and water flows through; in Java Edition the plate blocks water entirely.

What version added Spruce Pressure Plate?

Spruce Pressure Plate was added in Java Edition 1.13 and Bedrock Edition 1.4.0, in the update that gave every wood type its own pressure plate.
