Description

Sniffer Spawn Egg is a Creative-mode item that spawns an adult Sniffer the moment you use it on the ground. The egg shows a teal-green base with orange spots that match the Sniffer's own colours, and it was added in Minecraft 1.20 "Trails & Tales" for both Java and Bedrock Edition. Like every spawn egg, Sniffer Spawn Egg cannot be crafted or obtained in Survival — it lives only in the Creative inventory or comes from the /give command, making it a builder and map-maker tool rather than a Survival reward.

Use Sniffer Spawn Egg to skip the long Survival path of brushing Suspicious Sand for a Sniffer Egg, hatching a Snifflet, and waiting for it to grow up. Spawning an adult Sniffer directly is handy for ancient-plant farms, since two adult Sniffers bred with Torchflower Seeds produce a Snifflet, and roaming Sniffers dig Torchflower Seeds and Pitcher Pods out of grass and dirt. Map-makers also use Sniffer Spawn Egg to populate prehistoric or archaeology-themed builds with the largest passive land mob in Minecraft.

Java & Bedrock Guide

How to use the Sniffer Spawn Egg in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Get the egg in Creative

Open the Creative inventory and search "Sniffer Spawn Egg", or run /give @s minecraft:sniffer_spawn_egg in any mode with cheats on.

  2. 2

    Aim at solid ground

Point your crosshair at the top of a grass, dirt, or any solid block where the adult Sniffer has room to stand.

  3. 3

    Use the egg

Right-click (Java) or tap and long-press (Bedrock) to spawn one adult Sniffer at that spot.

  4. 4

    Breed for more

Feed Torchflower Seeds to two adult Sniffers to enter love mode and produce a Snifflet, which grows into another Sniffer.

Survival note

Sniffer Spawn Egg is unavailable in Survival. The only Survival way to start a Sniffer is to brush Suspicious Sand in warm ocean ruins for a Sniffer Egg, then hatch it (faster on a Moss Block).
