Description

Sandstone Slab is the half-height sandstone building block that generates naturally in desert pyramids, desert villages, and desert wells. A crafting grid turns three Sandstone blocks, or three Chiseled Sandstone blocks, placed in a single row into six Sandstone Slabs, and a stonecutter cuts one Sandstone into two Sandstone Slabs. Breaking requires a pickaxe: a wooden pickaxe mines a Sandstone Slab in 1.5 seconds, and mining without a pickaxe drops nothing. Sandstone Slab has hardness 2, blast resistance 6, a stack size of 64, and a history reaching back to the Java Edition Beta 1.3 update.

Two Sandstone Slabs combine into a double slab that fills the whole block space, and a single Sandstone Slab can be waterlogged, sharing the space with a water source block. Two Sandstone Slabs set one above the other on a crafting grid make one Chiseled Sandstone, a decorative block engraved with a creeper face. Builders choose Sandstone Slabs for smooth desert-style floors, ledges, window sills, and stair runs. A note block placed on a Sandstone Slab plays the bass drum instrument.

Gather sandstone

Mine Sandstone under the sand layers of desert and beach biomes, or pick Sandstone out of desert wells, desert villages, and desert pyramids. Four Sand blocks in a 2×2 crafting grid also produce one Sandstone.

Place three blocks in a row

Put three Sandstone blocks, or three Chiseled Sandstone blocks, into one row of a crafting table grid.

Collect the six slabs

Take the six Sandstone Slabs from the output slot. One batch fills three block spaces when every space holds a double slab.

Stack slabs into full blocks

Place a Sandstone Slab, then put a second Sandstone Slab on top to merge both into a double slab that fills the entire block space.

Use a stonecutter instead

A stonecutter turns one Sandstone into two Sandstone Slabs, matching the crafting rate of two slabs per Sandstone without opening a crafting table.
