Description

Chiseled Sandstone is a decorative variant of sandstone that players craft from two Sandstone Slabs stacked one above the other, yielding one carved block per pair. A stonecutter offers a second recipe: one Sandstone converts into one Chiseled Sandstone without slabs. Any pickaxe breaks Chiseled Sandstone. Desert pyramids, warm ocean ruins, and trial chambers also generate Chiseled Sandstone naturally. Chiseled Sandstone stacks to 64, registers a hardness of 0.8 with a blast resistance of 0.8, and counts as renewable.

Chiseled Sandstone serves builders as ornament, because the carved surface pattern stands out against plain sandstone walls. Chiseled Sandstone neither burns nor reacts to lava. Builders pick Chiseled Sandstone for pillars, wall accents, and floors in desert-themed builds.

Guide

How to craft Chiseled Sandstone in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft Sandstone Slabs

Place three Sandstone blocks in a horizontal row on a crafting grid to produce six Sandstone Slabs.

  2. 2

    Stack two slabs vertically

Put one Sandstone Slab in the middle cell of a crafting table and a second Sandstone Slab in the cell directly below to receive one Chiseled Sandstone.

  3. 3

    Use a stonecutter instead

Place one Sandstone into a stonecutter to convert the block into one Chiseled Sandstone without crafting slabs.

  4. 4

    Mine with any pickaxe

Break Chiseled Sandstone with any pickaxe. Chiseled Sandstone mined bare-handed drops nothing.

A hidden creeper

The creeper face engraved on Chiseled Sandstone belongs to the easter eggs hidden on Minecraft's chiseled blocks.
