Purple Carpet is a thin variant of wool that stands 1/16 of a block tall, the same visual thickness as a pressure plate, and that thinness stops mobs from spawning on the covered surface. A crafting grid turns two Purple Wool into three Purple Carpets, and Purple Wool itself comes from any wool plus a Purple Dye or from shearing a sheep dyed purple for 1–3 wool each time. In Java Edition, any carpet combined with one Purple Dye becomes one Purple Carpet, while Bedrock Edition crafts eight colored carpets from eight White Carpets around a single dye. Purple, white, and red carpets also generate naturally in taiga villages, and shepherd villagers sell carpets in their trades. Purple Carpet breaks with any tool or a bare hand, stacks to 64, and never emits light.

Builders use Purple Carpet for lighting tricks: the thin layer does not decrease the light passing through, so a light-emitting floor block under the carpet keeps a room bright while staying hidden. A Purple Carpet placed on a fence or a wall lets players jump onto the barrier while animals still cannot cross. Using Purple Carpet on a llama fills the llama's carpet slot and drapes the llama in a rug patterned with the eyes of an enderman. Like wool, Purple Carpet dampens vibrations, so sculk sensors never react to placing, breaking, or stepping on the thin cover.
