Purple Bed is a dyeable bed block that lets a player in the Overworld sleep through the night and move the spawn point to within a few blocks of the bed. One Purple Bed crafts on a crafting table from three purple wool across the middle row and three planks across the bottom row; the wool color must match, while the planks can mix different woods. A purple dye recolors a bed of any color into a Purple Bed. Players also find Purple Bed blocks without crafting: taiga village houses generate blue or purple beds, and the secret rooms of trial chambers can contain purple beds. Hardness 0.2 and blast resistance 0.2 keep Purple Bed fragile — no tool speeds up breaking, and a destroyed Purple Bed drops itself. Dyed beds arrived in Java Edition 1.12 and Bedrock 1.1.

Sleeping in a Purple Bed works at night or during a thunderstorm, and even a daytime use sets the spawn point for future respawns. Monsters within 8 blocks of the bed stop a player from sleeping until the threats are gone, and three in-game days without sleep invite phantoms. Purple Bed refuses to work outside the Overworld: in the Nether and the End the bed explodes with power 5, stronger than TNT. Falling onto a Purple Bed bounces a player at 75% of the impact velocity and cuts fall damage to slightly less than half. Villagers claim beds at night, and spare Purple Bed blocks let villagers produce offspring.
